An event every week that begins at 11:00 on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until 18.8.2019
Yhteys–Kontakt (Contact) is a common project between two Nordic associations for printmakers. The companions are the Vaasa Printmakers from Finland and the Östersund Collective Printmakers’ Studio from Sweden.
This joint project is a part of the North Cultitude 62/63 -network. The network aims at bringing together artists, associations, and collectives that are active on the same latitude. A stronger enthusiasm on common projects is its goal.
Overall, more contacts between associations and over the boundaries is the intent. The overall intent is to increase the collaboration and communication between the two associations over the border.
The Yhteys–Kontakt -project consists of two exhibition and two workshops that are executed over three years successively in Finland and in Sweden.
The Yhteys–Kontakt project was initiated by a lithography workshop, which was arranged in Vaasa in the summer of 2017. On the autumn of that same year, a juried exhibition was held at the Ahlbergshallen, Östersund. The Vaasa Printmakers made a return visit to a serigraphy workshop in Östersund during the summer of 2018.
This exhibition at the Vaasa City Art Gallery concludes the three-year-project.
It will also be possible to see a postcard project at the gallery. The idea of this postcard exchange was to create a natural connection between Finnish and Swedish graphic artists, and a means of communication by using techniques that are familiar for printmakers. These self-made postcards that were sent to colleagues in the neighboring country are now to been as an installation at the Vaasa City Art Gallery.
The Yhteys–Kontakt exhibition has been curated by the graphic artist Annika Dahlsten. On basis of the received applications, she has created an exhibition concept that suits the Vaasa City Art Gallery well.
We can look forward to traditional prints in different techniques, moving pictures, sculptures, and installations.
The artists that have been selected for the exhibition Yhteys–Kontakt are:
